A true family effort, Baja Design (BD) out of Denver, Colorado has been serving the Denver granite fabrication and installation needs for the past 14 years. Founded by Raul Carballo in June 2004, Baja is dedicated to providing excellent service with no surprises and no hidden fees. Accompanied by his two children, Jose and Nancy, Baja has truly made a name for themselves and will continue to be a staple in the Denver granite market for the years to come. Earlier this month, Granite Liquidators (GL) sat down with Nancy Carballo to chat about Baja Design- mainly where they came from and where they are going.
Denver Granite Fabrication and Installation
GL: So Nancy, I know that we have been referring customers to you for fabrication and installation for some time now, but what are all of your services that you offer your customers?
BD: Well, you got it right. We offer fabrication and installation on granite, quartz, marble, soapstone and quartzite.
GL: And tell us a little about Baja Designs. When was it founded and what’s the story behind it?
BD: Well Baja was founded by my father, Raul Carballo in June 2004. He was working at another local fabrication shop prior to starting Baja and the shop unfortunately went out of business. Raul had a close relationship with the owner of that company and he graciously sold all of his materials and machinery to Raul to start his own shop. Like most parents, Raul wanted to create a better life for his family. His motivation to succeed in doing that and his love for the granite industry has created a successful business with Baja that has been going for 14 years.
GL: That’s a great story! It seems like Raul really had a vision for his business and has worked hard to make it reality over the past decade. What is your favorite part about working in the granite industry?
BD: We really enjoy working with people. It’s fulfilling to see how happy and excited people are when they see their finished product. It feels good knowing we made that happen.
GL: If people would like to get an idea of what it looks like to work with Baja, what is your average turnaround for a project?
BD: We strive to finish every project within 1-2 weeks, depending on how busy we are. We usually do about 2-3 installs per day and service the entire state of Colorado.
GL: How many employees do you have and which employee has been there the longest?
BD: We have 10 employees currently and Jose and I have both been with Baja since around 2011 when we graduated and started working with our father.
GL: We both know that there are always some crazy stories with granite installation. Do you have any cool projects you would like to share with us?
BD: Well, our craziest project we worked on was a two slab island for a residential customer. This thing was huge! It was a 6cm, broken edge slab that required 6 people and a forklift to install. It turned out beautifully, but it was a lot of work! We’ve also done a lot of work for local sushi restaurants and the Great Wall Buffet. We get a lot of installs for apartments with One Call Construction, as well.
GL: Very nice, seems like you are busy! As we finish up, what are some things you would like people to know about Baja Design and what are your goals for the business?
BD: We pride ourselves on our communication with our customers. We have competitive pricing and are always upfront and honest. There will never be any surprises or hidden fees when you work with us. As a company, we hope to continue growing and making our customers happy.
