Bathrooms see just about as much foot traffic as a kitchen with the added element of wet surfaces more often. Granite
Starting off with our most popular material and namesake, granite is one of the best natural stones on the market for bathroom surfaces. It is primarily used as countertops for our customers due to its durable surface and wide range of color and texture options. In addition, granite has a very low absorption rate making it a great material for a bathroom setting that can become victim to excess wetness.
In addition to its moisture resistance, granite also does well in preventing stains and etching. A lot goes on in a bathroom, and with granite, you can be sure you’re covered no matter what. If granite is not properly sealed, be aware that it may absorb substances such as oil. This tends to come up more when used in a kitchen setting, but it’s still good to note. In comparison to marble and quartzite, granite tends to be the most popular and affordable material for our customers. Marble
Marble is the perfect material for those looking to achieve an elegant, yet durable, design in their bathroom spaces. Although stunning, marble can be known for its vulnerability to staining agents and scratching. If you’re someone who doesn’t need the most durable material available and is more focused on looks, marble is for you.
Marble is commonly used in showers or flooring as these surfaces don’t see the same exposure to harsh irritants that countertops do. Some people even like to install marble fire features in their bathroom areas for added comfort. Because the stone is great at combating heat, marble countertops are well-suited for heat tools. These slabs are primarily white but many feature interesting designs and accents of color to make your bathroom pop.
Quartzite
A favorite natural stone among the majority of our customers is quartzite. Quartzite slabs are known for their breathtaking beauty and intricate detailing making each slab one of a kind. Not to be confused with man-made quartz, quartzite is a completely natural stone originating from some of the top quarries in the world.
Quartzite resists etching and can prevent any staining when sealed properly. Like the other two natural stones, it also is impervious to heat. But keep in mind, it’s always a good idea to add a barrier of protection— especially if you’ll be adding heat to the same area repeatedly. Quartzite tends to be the most expensive option out of the three, but well worth it in terms of visual appeal and functionality for decades to come.
